wreckage
Wreckage is built from the sensations and memories of Cabrera’s youth as a soldier’s daughter. The dark underbelly of the piece are the midnight marches of three sisters, propelled by the drunk and dangerous orders of a fourth, unsettling character. Motifs of aggression and survival, evocative images and states of chaos juxtaposed with strict order inform the physical vocabulary of this work. Wreckage sees the quartet of heroines become soldiers in their own battles: Contact Improvisation becomes combat; formation and unison become militaristic maneuvers; extension, release and expression become catharsis.
